Living Streets Alliance is pleased to announce that on Sunday, October 30 from 9:00am to 3:00pm, Cyclovia Tucson will take place on a new route connecting Dunbar Spring, Barrio Blue Moon, Old Pascua, Bronx Park, Sugar Hill and Feldman’s neighborhoods.
During the event, approximately 4 miles of Tucson streets will become temporarily transformed into car-free, linear parks connecting an expected 50,000 people to local businesses, neighborhoods and organizations in the area. Partners such as Tucson House, BICAS, The Dunbar Pavillion, Richey Resource Center and Pima Community College make their home along the route and will be engaging participants with exciting activities. Green spaces like Esquer Park and Mansfield Park will also be activated, with designated walking paths off the main route for off-bike exploration.
The eighteenth Cyclovia Tucson event is presented by Arizona Complete Health and made possible with additional support from Tucson City Council Ward 3, Pima County Department of Environmental Quality, City of Tucson, Cigna, Arizona Commission on the Arts, TMC Health and dozens of other partners and sponsors.
“Cyclovia is all about celebrating the vibrancy of our communities,” said Martha Smith, Arizona Complete Health Plan President. “This year, we are thrilled to host a health and wellness hub where people will be able to get cancer screenings, blood pressure checks, fresh fruits and vegetables and learn about different health care coverage options to get healthy and stay healthy.”
Cyclovia Tucson is a program of Living Streets Alliance, a nonprofit advocacy organization that envisions streets as living public spaces connecting people to places and to each other. As part of the worldwide “open streets” movement, Cyclovia Tucson is not just about the day-of event, but also making space for community visioning about what could be possible on our streets and in public spaces. “Cyclovia is a huge community effort that brings collaborators together for months in advance,” Open Streets Coordinator Patricia Schwartz said. “This route will showcase some of the new neighborhood murals and quick-build traffic calming projects we’ve been collaborating on as part of the Thrive in the 05 initiative.”
Cyclovia Tucson is a community event that activates city streets through the participation of local groups, individuals, businesses, and organizations as activity partners, volunteers and sponsors.
