SPRING SWINGS AT THE CENTURY ROOM

Tucson, AZ—The Century Room at Hotel Congress swings into spring featuring top talents from Tucson and across the country in an eclectic mix of jazz genres plus a comedy show, a jazz harmonica player and more.  The intimate jazz venue features a range of showtimes throughout the weekend, including a Friday night concert series plus late-night gigs Thursdays and Saturdays and a Sunday night jam session.  A small bites menu (see below) was recently introduced to accompany the world class cocktail offerings.

Thursday May 5 | 9pm & 10:30pm: Pueblos del Maiz presents Rafael Moreno Quintet | No cover courtesy of Pueblos del Maiz festival.

Rafael Moreno Quartet plays a mix of jazz from across Latin America. The perfect soundtrack for the Pueblos del Maiz Cinco de Mayo party!

The AZXtet draws on the classic jazz sound of the 60s, with reference to the tradition of simultaneous improvisation & African & Latin roots.

 

Saturday May 7 | 9pm & 10:30pm: Pueblos del Maiz presents Late Night with Gabriel Ayala | $5 at the door.

A member of the Yaqui people of southern Arizona, Gabriel Ayala is an accomplished classical and jazz guitarist and brings his quartet to the Century Room for the first time.

 

Sunday May 8 | 7pm: Diane Van Deurzen & Lisa Otey | $15 advanced tickets.

Diane Van Deurzen & Lisa Otey bring their perfect blend of hot jazz, sultry blues and boogie-woogie to the Century Room on Mother’s Day!

 

Thursday May 12 | 7pm: Autumn Dominguez & Friends Sunflower Seeds Album Release Show | $15 / $10 students

The Century Room presents saxophonist Autumn Dominguez and friends outside on the Hotel Congress Plaza stage for the release of her new album, ‘Sunflower Seeds.

Matt Mitchell returns with his trio to the Century Room following Autumn Dominguez’s “Sunflower Seeds” release show on the Plaza Stage!

Trumpeter and vocalist Tony Frank brings his quartet to the Century Room for a late night afterparty, following the Dianne Reeves concert at Leo Rich theater.

 

Saturday May 14 | 9pm &10:30pm: Late Night with the Glendon Gross Quintet | $5 at the door.
Trumpeter Glendon Gross brings his band of swinging musicians to the Century Room for the Late Night series on Saturday May 14th. $5 at the door.

Paul Green is an accomplished harmonica player and vocalist who is making his Century Room debut!

Multi-instrumentalist Max Goldschmid is a mainstay on the Century Room stage as we never know what he’s going to play.

GRAMMY nominated pianist Rachel Eckroth and her trio perform Duke Ellington’s “Money Jungle” at the Century Room! Rescheduled from previous date.

 

Friday May 27 | 7pm & 9pm: Brice Winston Group | $15 advanced tickets.

Tucson native Brice Winston cut his teeth in the vibrant New Orleans music scene where he formed creative relationships with Terence Blanchard, Nicholas Payton, and many more. He will perform his original music, which is hard driving, complex modern jazz.

Vocalist Sheryl Ann has been cooking up this show for a long time and finally has the proper stage to perform her salute to the great Lady Day, Billie Holiday! She has assembled a great band to back her up on classics like “What A Little Moonlight Can Do,” “All of Me” and more.

Accomplished New York City vocalist Ashley Pezzotti will stop at the Century Room to perform a special concert while on tour Arizona.

HOURS AND DETAILS

The Century Club is located in Downtown Tucson in the Hotel Congress at 311 E Congress Street (with the entrance at 5th Ave and Congress) and offers entertainment Thursdays through Sundays. . A primary feature of the Century Room is the beautiful Agave beverage display at the front of the space dedicated to the celebration and tasting of the world’s best Mezcal and related agave spirits. A broad selection of local and Sonoran wines is offered along with locally brewed beer and spirits, a full list of creative cocktails and a small bites menu.  The bar is open for business before and after concerts and on non-concert nights as well from 6pm Thursday through Sunday. Some events require advance tickets. hotelcongress.com/centuryroom/
