The OK Street Jailhouse is a great place to stay while in Bisbee on vacation or business. Built-in 1904 as the local branch of the County Jail, this jail was the arm of the prison system until 1915, when a larger facility had to be constructed to keep up with the increased ‘boarder’ demand of a booming mining town.
While turn-of-the-century inmates never had it this good, you can relax in total comfort at the OK Street Jailhouse. On the first floor, the former Jailer’s office is a small entry area with a desk and phone. The ‘Drunk Tank’ houses the living room/kitchen and a half bath. Take the stairs to the second floor to the cell for ‘serious offenders’ and you’ll find a small sitting area, the bedroom, a closet, and the bathroom with shower and Jacuzzi tub. While serving your sentence at the OK Street Jailhouse, the entire building is yours, making you the jailer and the inmate. After we turn the keys over to you, ‘you’re on your own’.
Inmates at the OK Street Jailhouse need to rely on public parking just a few steps from the Jail. Fine eating establishments, museums, and activities are located within walking distance from the Jail.
