Purcell Galleries of Fine Art
Roy Purcell is the constant journeyer, seeking from birth and time immemorial to explore and understand his journey as it reflects our own. Having early opened the door by word and image into the depths of his subconscious, he taps into its endless reserve of the collective memory of the world, its history, beauty and destiny. He grew up a shy oversensitive boy in a rural community of central Utahs Wasatch Range, where the mountains cradled him and the vastness of the western desert beckoned his spirit. Drawn into that desert as a young man, the mystic qualities of his nature were ignited. After completing military, religious and educational endeavors, he sought solitude where he learned to listen to his inner creative voice. His search for meaning led him into history, mythology and psychology and the honing of his creative skills in writing and fine art. He became well known for poignant watercolors and etchings of western history and landscapes. His interest in printmaking led him into worldwide projects culminating in the production of the (then) worlds largest intaglio prints. He then retreated from public life to focus on personal and spiritual growth and the development and mastery of various painting styles and techniques. Fortunately for the rest of us his driving need to express what he perceives has left a legacy of beauty and understanding marking him as a pertinent voice for our times. His work brings us to a clearer vision of the continuum of our past, present and future. From his pen and his brush come a multi-dimensional statement spoken with the sensitivity and beauty rarely seen in the annals of creativity.
